Nasiri, Zahedi to Compete for Iran at Malaysia’s 64th Int’l Quran Contest

 IQNA – Iran named its representatives in the 64th edition of Malaysia’s international Quran competition.

Hamid Reza Nasiri and Mohammad Reza Zahedi will compete for Iran in the prestigious competition’s recitation and memorization categories, respectively. 

This was announced by the Quranic Affairs Center of the Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization and the Committee for Inviting and Dispatching Quran Reciters and Memorizers.

The qari and memorizer both finished runner-up in the respective categories of Iran’s 46th National Quran Competition.

It will be the first time Iran will take part in the international Quranic event in Malaysia to compete in two categories, both memorization and recitation.

In the previous years, the Islamic Republic’s representatives only competed in the recitation category.

Hamid Reza Nasiri is a computer engineer and a top qari.

Nasiri, who is from the northern city of Zanjan, has won many ranks in various Quran competitions.

Mohammad Reza Zahedi is from Tehran and is a memorizer of the entire Holy Quran. At the age of 16, he represented Iran at the 22nd edition of the Dubai International Holy Quran Award in 2018.

Malaysia’s international Quran competition, officially known as Malaysia International Al-Quran Recital and Memorization Assembly (MTHQA), is annually organized in the country’s capital of Kuala Lumpur.

A total of 76 representatives from 52 countries competed in two categories of Quran recitation and memorization in the 63rd edition in August 2023.
